The official notice released on Thursday, 11 January 2024 states that the UGC invites Expressions of Interest (Eol) from interested authors/critics & faculty members of HEls to write undergraduate course textbooks in 12 Indian languages in the different subjects of Arts, Science, and Social Science.

UGC also stated that interested authors and writers can send their acceptance to the commission by filling out a Google form provided by the authority by 30 January 2024 (midnight). Whereas the link to the form is provided in the UGC official notice.
UGC To Provide UG Books In 12 Indian Languages Details
These 12 languages include Assamese, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odiya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
According to UGC chairperson M Jagadesh Kumar, In line with NEP 2020 goal to provide learning opportunities to students in Indian languages, we are identifying nodal universities in different states that will coordinate the practice of forming teams of authors who can write high-quality textbooks in Indian languages.
In July 2023, UGC issued guidelines for the translation of textbooks for undergraduate programs, stating that an AI-based translation tool called Anuvadini, developed by the AICTE will be used for translating books.
Later, Jagadesh Kumar stated that he also met with some publishing houses to explore the possibility of translating the books.
After this, the chairperson of the high-powered committee for the promotion of Indian languages, Mr Chamu Krishna Shastri also carried out a study to explore the feasibility of making the books available to everyone through various mediums of study.
