After consideration, it rejected the idea of a unique undergraduate entrance exam, distinct from NEET, for all AIIMS and institutes of National Importance.

“It is proposed that admission into undergraduate courses in the INIs should be done through a Combined Entrance Test (INICET-UG),” a note submitted to the governing body (AIIMS) stated.

Official Statement

It was proposed that the MBBS admission exam for AIIMS might be detached from the NEET-UG exam and returned to the previous status, which persisted till 2019.

The AIIMS in New Delhi used to hold an All-India entrance exam for students seeking admission to the MBBS programme at any of the AIIMS in order to choose the best candidates for its medical undergraduate degree (MBBS). This test was administered until 2019.

When the NMC Act was announced in 2019, the AIIMS MBBS entrance test was discontinued and admissions to MBBS seats at all AIIMS were combined with the NEET-UG exam administered by the National Testing Agency.

As a result, starting in 2020, all AIIMS will accept applications for MBBS seats through the NEET-UG exam “Officials explained.

Additionally, the NEET-UG exam serves about 80,000 MBBS seats and has a significant number of stakeholders, which include students and colleges. The massive organizational endeavor necessitates substantial logistics and, as a result, delays.

Furthermore, because of the numerous stakeholders (including Central, State, Deemed, and Private Universities), the NEET examination and counselling procedure is frequently delayed due to litigation at various courts.
