As per the NEP 2021, these competency-based questions include MCQs, case-based questions, and source-based integrated questions, and cover about 40% to 50% of questions in the theory examination of classes 11 and 12 from 2024 onwards.

However, the weightage of constructed response questions, including short and long-answer questions, will be reduced from 40% to 30%. This adjustment reflects a concerted attempt to balance the assessment framework by prioritizing the critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills of the students.

Whereas, the weightage of the selective type questions (MCQs) will remain the same as per the NEP 2021 i.e. 20%. This shift towards the competency-based questions for classes 11 and 12 from 2024 will help the students to learn more about the real-time circumstances said Joseph Emanuel, director of CBSE.
