Under the previous approach, 50 percent of admissions are done directly from students who obtained their bachelor’s degrees from the institution based on merit in their qualifying tests.

The modification in the admission pattern of postgraduate programmes was proposed by a 10-member group constituted to suggest a strategy for PG admissions from 2023-2024.

The remaining 50 percent of seats are now filled based on students’ ranks in the DU postgraduate entrance test.

Council Member Statement

According to council member Seema Das, “The Executive Council has agreed to approve PG admissions through CUET with half of the seats remaining under merit-based admission for students of DU.”

The council committee had proposed that starting with the academic year 2023–2024, admission to all postgraduate programmes be handled through a single window system in which a Common University Entrance Test (CUET–PG), administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA), would be required of all groups wishing to enroll in the university.

Separate merit lists will be generated for students who pass the CUET-PG and those who previously appeared in the postgraduate entrance exam.

Priority will be given to students who previously took the DU admission exam when creating the merit list. A total number of 66 universities, including public, private, and central universities, had chosen to use the CUET PG exam for admissions.

One of the universities that decided against using this entrance exam is Delhi University, which is now admitting students to PG programmes through the standard procedures.
