The Parliament member said that the UGC had earlier approved an extended time for the deposition of the PhD thesis. Thanking the commission’s decision, he said that the “benefits of UGC’s positive initiative could be availed by some batches.

The MP has pointed out the lack of infrastructure for research & experiments such as libraries or studios.

During the lockdown, the universities were closed for more than a year. Laboratory work was also affected as all the experiments were stopped. The research field was also affected as the prolonged closure of universities reduced the library’s access, he added.

“Most of the research work needs fieldwork that was not conducted for two years due to the lockdown & other pandemic regulations,” as per the letter to UGC Chairman.

The MP further said that the students’ health also suffered due to the Covid 19. This is the 2nd time that the UGC has granted an extension.

Therefore, the Kerala MP has requested the UGC Chairman, Jagadesh Kumar, to give an extension of 2 years for the PhD thesis submission for all batches from 2014-2020 affected by Covid-19.

Earlier, the UGC said to implement appropriate changes to avoid gaps in the teaching & learning process. For the development of students, the UGC Guidelines have been issued. Candidates can download the complete UGC Guidelines from UGC’s official website i.e., ugc.ac.in.

Hence, candidates are advised to stay in touch with UGC’s official website for any further updates.
