Girls Candidates can take Admission in Military Schools: Supreme Court

As per the latest decision made by the Supreme Court, the female candidates have been allowed to apply for UPSC NDA 2021 exams. With this decision, it has opened doors for female candidates into the defence sector.

NDA is a national level entrance exam conducted for selection of candidates for admission into training academies of the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Air Force. NDA II 2021 is scheduled to be held on 14th November 2021.

With the permission of entry into NDA for female candidates, the Centre has also allowed admission of females into Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS) and Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC).

As per the reports published in the hindu The Central Government has been directed by SC to make the required arrangements & issue fresh advertisements for the induction of girls into RMS and RIMC. 

For the infrastructure, the issued affidavit has said to create a girl friendly infrastructure in the school campus. It must facilitate the living of the girls in respect to safety, privacy, security and establish supporting staff.

As there is need for authorising of additional vacancies for female candidates, a statement from MOD has said that it is proposed to be carried out in two phases. 

In the first phase, the maximum capacity of females will be increased from 250 to 300 by inducting 5 girls every six months. For this the girls will be allowed to appear for the RIMC entrance exam which is scheduled in June 2022.

In the second phase, the maximum capacity of females will be increased from 300 to 350 by inducting 10 girls every six months. With this at the end of the expansion RIMC will be having 250 boys and 100 girls. 

For this the girls will be allowed to appear for the RIMC entrance exam which is scheduled in June 2027 for entry into term which will start in January 2028.

Talking about the admission quota for girls in RMS, it will include a quota of 10% of the total vacancies in the 1st phase in each school for entry into class 6 in accordance with various reservations applicable in RMS from academic session 2022 – 23.

“Reserve 10% of the total vacancies in each school for girl candidates for entry into Classes 6 to 9 in accordance with various reservations applicable in the RMSs w.e.f. academic session 2023-24,” MoD said.
