As per the JEE 2020 criteria, students had to clear exams in chemistry, physics & mathematics, in addition to other subjects. This was applied during the pandemic year.

However, the decision to bring back the Class 12 criterion was made after the Joint Admission Board/JAB meeting last month. It means that the candidates have to meet the Class 12 Eligibility criteria even if they obtain better marks in JEE Advance.

During the pandemic, the IIT has released the Class 12 Board Exam performance criteria as several schools also shifted to different modes of evaluating student performance.

It means that prior to the pandemic, candidates securing high ranks in JEE Advanced were not provided admissions in IITs unless & until they fulfilled the Class 12 criterion.

“Board exams were cancelled in all states in one year & later on the board considered online classes & other limitations. But now normalcy has returned in board exam & the schools have started covering full syllabus again.”

Similarly, the eligibility or qualifying criterion in JEE Advanced regarding Class 12th Board exams is back with the original format, stated by the JAB’s member.

On the other hand, The JEE Advanced 2023 Examination will be held on a New Syllabus. The authority has changed & revised the syllabus for the examination.

According to the new syllabus, new changes have been implemented in the Mathematics syllabus combined with the Statistics. More chapters have been added to the syllabus.
