The government of Delhi, on Wednesday, declared that the winter breaks in Delhi schools are announced early as the city is struggling with continuous deterioration in the air quality.

The Delhi air quality index (AQI) returned to the “severe” zone on 8th November 2023, this morning after remaining “very poor” for several hours on the previous day.
The worst AQI measurements in the country had been recorded on Wednesday morning in Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh), and Fatehabad (Haryana), at 474 and 442, respectively.
As per the notice released by the Directorate of Education Delhi, all the government-aided schools and private schools will remain closed till 18 Nov 2023 (Saturday).
“After the implementation of GRAP-IV measures due to Severe + Air Quality prevailing in Delhi, no change in the situation in Delhi has been observed by the IMD, so the Winter Break for the session 2023-24 is ordered to be preponed so that schools can be totally closed and both children and teachers can stay at home” States the official notice.
Previously the notice regarding the closure of schools in Noida was released by the District Magistrate of Gautambuddh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh stating that the schools in Noida will remain closed till 10 Nov 2023 from pre-primary classes to class 9th and the reason for this is the same, i.e. rise in air pollution in Delhi.
