Jamia Millia Forms Panel to Examine Implementation of 4-year Undergraduate Programme; Here’s All You Need to Know

Jamia Milia Islamia: According to a university’s senior official, Jamia Millia Islamia has established a committee to examine the implementation of the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) instruction to begin granting four-year undergraduate honours degrees in the next academic session.

The Academic Council will review the report of the committee in January, and the Executive Council, the highest decision-making body of the university, will then discuss it.

“A committee has been established to review the application of the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) guidelines for four-year undergraduate degrees.

The committee is investigating the issue and is anticipated to deliver a report on it soon, “Nazim Husain Al-Jafri, the registrar, stated.

He stated that the group is planning how to divide the three-year curriculum into four years.

Institutions Asked to Take Necessary Steps

UGC has requested that all institutions of higher learning take the appropriate actions to adopt the undergraduate program’s curriculum and credit structure.

The framework was created by making changes to the current Choice-Based Credit System.

Instead of the current three-year course, students will only be able to pursue a four-year honours degree under the programme.

There will be two sorts of honours degrees available: honours and honours with research. Additionally, the curriculum and credit framework for undergraduate programmes gives students a variety of entry and exit points.

If they leave before the three-year mark, they will be permitted to return within three years of their departure and will be required to finish their degree within the allotted seven-year time frame.
