JNU to conduct in-house PhD entrance exams from next year – The JNU is to conduct in-house PhD entrance exams from next year, three years after outsourcing the task to NTA, as per the announcement by Vice Chancellor Santishree D Pandit.

Pandit said the majority opinion was in favour of admissions being conducted through the previous pattern. The university reassumes the responsibility of conducting the entrance examination, as the students & teachers demanded.

“We will go back to Jawaharlal Nehru University/JNU Entrance Examination for PhD admission as the majority thinks that for PhD, critical analysis is important; MCQ does not allow that,” Pandit stated during a Press Conference.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting the examination for the last three years. Those who are willing to take admissions into PhD programmes have to appear in the Computer Based Test.

Over the last years, teachers & students highlighted the problems with the NTA-led examination.

On the other hand, the JNUEE PhD 2022 Examination was held on 7th, 8th, 9th & 10th December, 2022.

Earlier, the JNU teachers association had alleged that admissions to the varsity’s prestigious PhD programmes were being managed in an awful manner.

The JNU students Union had also staged a demonstration demanding that the academic autonomy of universities be restored & the responsibility of conducting examinations be given back to the varsity.

However, the JNU PhD Admission 2022 Under JRF/Junior Research Fellowship Category was started earlier on 21st November, 2022. JNU or Jawaharlal Nehru University PhD Admissions under the JRF category are organised to offer admission into several PhD courses.

Candidates who have been awarded “Lectureship” without JRF in the CSIR/UGC examination are not eligible & will not be preceded. While those who are applying under JRF category selection will be done depending upon the 100% viva score.
