NCERT To Bring Balanced Perspective Of All Genders In New Curriculum, Textbooks – The NCERT is to bring a balanced perspective of all Genders In New Curriculum & Textbooks, according to the Parliamentary Panel.

Earlier, the panel advised addressing the under-representation of women & girls in school textbooks or being addressed only in traditional roles an analysis of the gender bias should be undertaken by the National Council of Educational Research & Training (NCERT).

Now, the NCERT is working towards bringing balanced content for all genders in the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF) & in its textbooks.

On Monday, the Report of the Reforms in Content & Design of School Textbooks Committee on the action taken by the government on its recommendations was tabled in Parliament.

The panel has also said that efforts should be made to make content portrayal & visual depiction gender oriented.

The committee has been informed that the NCERT has taken note of all the issues raised by the Parliament. Also, it will contribute to bringing in a balanced perspective of all the gender in the NCF, syllabus & textbooks which will be made under NCFs. The process of NCF development has already been considered by the NCERT.

The panel has also recommended that textbooks should have a great representation of women. The textbooks should focus on women’s contributions & stories of achieving their goals which will inspire others. It will result in developing self-esteem & self-confidence among all, especially girls.

While checking the textbooks, other topics like human values, environmental sensitivity, issues of children, etc. can also be considered for the school textbooks, the panel had said.

Earlier, the NCERT Textbook (Class 9th) has come under fire for ‘promoting toxic behaviour in families. The topics mentioned in the Class 9th NCERT Textbook lead to a toxic environment in families.
