Kavya Dhakad, a 21-year-old NEET aspirant from Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri faked her kidnapping to get money from her parents for studying abroad with her friend. She has been missing since March 17 and the last location of her phone was in Gurugram studies in Kota.

On Wednesday, an update regarding this case came to light by the police in Kota, Rajasthan, saying that the girl was not kidnapped, but wanted to travel abroad with her ‘friends’, and hence she demanded Rs 30 lakh from her father.

Kota SP Amrita Duhan said that Kavya Dhakad had gone to Kota with her mother on August 3, 2023, and stayed there for two to three days in a hostel and then had come to Indore to join her friends.
Regarding her move, she had not informed her mother. She was then residing in the Bhanwarkuan neighborhood at a hostel. The girl is seen with two of her male friends in a CCTV clip that has also surfaced. With her friends, the girl has not been abducted, according to the Kota SP.
After Kayva’s father Raghuveer Dhakad received a photo of her with ropes around her neck and a demand for a ransom of Rs 30 lakh to free her, the story of her “kidnapping” came to light on Monday.
Police in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh were placed on high alert as a result of Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Union minister of civil aviation, demanding Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to track down the girl and bring her back safely.
According to Indore police, searched for Kavya and her other male friend throughout Tuesday, but could not trace them.
As of now, Kavya and her other male friend remain missing. Police are searching for them based on CCTV footage showing them at a Jaipur railway station just hours before the staged kidnapping.
The officer has appealed to the student and her friends to immediately contact the police if any information is found and a reward has also been announced for information leading to Kavya’s whereabouts.
