Meanwhile, NMC published the NExt 2023 Exam Guidelines Draft on 28th December, 2022 & invites suggestions from the stakeholders. The guidelines are made as per the NMC Act, 2019 which suggested a National Exit Test (NExT) for medical graduates.

Union Health Ministry has also proposed amendments to the existing NMC Act. As per the new amendment, it is compulsory that all cases by medical colleges should be under the jurisdiction of the Delhi High Court instead of the respective state high courts.

“It has been decided to make amendments in the NMC ACt 2019 to set up a 5th autonomous board, namely Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences under the NMC” a public notice stated. This notice was issued on the Draft bill on 29th December, 2022.

Apart from this, the draft bill also proposes incorporating a provision in the parent Act that jurisdiction in the cases filed by medical colleges shall be Delhi High Court only.

Since NBES is also providing degrees under the Diplomat of National Board (DNB) & NMC under the Doctor of Medicine (MD) & Master’s in Surgery (MS), it was seen that keeping them under one regulatory control will result in better & standardised medical education.

However, the NExT Exam is a replacement for NEET PG. At present, the NBE takes the responsibility for conducting exams like NEET PG, FMGE, NEET SS, etc.

NExT is an entrance examination for admission to PG Medical courses to practice modern medicine, a qualifying final-year MBBS Exam & a screening test for foreign medical graduates. Therefore, it will substitute or replace exams like NEET PG & FMGE.
