NExT: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has published a draft set of rules for the National Exit Test (NExT), which applicants must pass in order to be admitted to postgraduate medical programmes and receive a license to practice medicine in India.

Candidates can review the NMC public notice on the NMC website, nmc.org.in. The NExT exam will be divided into two separate tests termed “Steps,” according to the proposed guidelines.

The conceptual exam for Step 1 will take place in the second week of December, and the practical exam for Step 2 will take place in the second week of March.

NExT is meant to take the place of the NEET PG test, which stands for National Eligibility Entrance Test for Postgraduate.

Steps To Check NMC Public Notice

Follow the steps provided below to check the NMC guidelines on schedule, duration, Scores, Papers-

  • Go to the official website at nmc.org.in
  • You will enter the homepage of the website.
  • Go to the “What’s New” section.
  • Click on the “Draft regulations related to National Exit Test (NExT) as prescribed in the National Medical Commission Act, 2019- reg” link.
  • The notice will appear on a new page.
  • Check the details and download them for further use.

NExT Step 1 will be a computer-based, multiple-choice exam that will be held in accordance with NMC criteria, while Step 2 will be a practical and viva voce test.

Six papers in Step 1 covering both Part 1 and Part 2 of the MBBS third-year of final-year subjects will be required. In Step 2, seven clinical topics will be covered.

A physical exam will be given once a year. You may take the Step 2 exam as many times as you like without any limitations.

According to the criteria, students who fail the ordinary exam will be given a second chance to pass both steps in a supplementary exam.
