Further, he stated that lord Dhanvantri symbolises Indian medical science, and the black-and-white image of lord Dhanvantri was adopted in the NMC’s logo in 2022.
The matter came to light in the Rajya Sabha when the Trinamool congress MP Dr. Shnatanu Sen said that the NMC should restore its old logo as the new one is against the constitution.
“A new logo of NMC was not required. It represents a specific religion. What is the National Medical Commission’s role? It governs the medical curriculum and approves new medical schools. Its purpose is not to promote any particular religion”.
“It goes against the basic oath that we, as doctors, swear after passing the MBBS, whether it’s the Charak oath or the Hippocratic oath. We swear that we will treat every patient, regardless of caste, creed, or religion,” Sen stated.
Then, Mansukh Mandaviya defended ‘Sen’ and said “lord Dhanvantari is an icon of the medical field for India. The presence of a statue of lord Dhanvantari is not only significant for India, but it is also a matter of pride for the country, which should be proud of its heritage and culture.”
At last, he stated, “instead of questioning the move, people should be proud of it”.
