NMC Revises Guidelines for Medical Education Unit: The Medical Education Unit, or MEU, under the National Medical Commission (NMC), has updated the regulations and guidelines under the commission. Up until January 31, 2024, this waiver has been granted.

According to the official announcement, NMC has decided to remove the additional requirement for resource faculty who wish to apply for fellowships through the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) or the Advance Course in Medical Education (ACME).

The updated guidelines were published in PDF format on December 27, 2022, on the commission’s official website at nmc.org.in.

In accordance with these updated regulations, NMC has also chosen to eliminate the additional requirement for faculty qualifications.

Steps To Check Revised Guidelines for MEU

The steps listed below can be used by all medical students to check the guidelines.

  • Visit the official website at nmc.org.in
  • You will enter the homepage of the website.
  • Go to the “What’s New” section.
  • Click on the “Revised Guidelines for Medical Education Unit(MEU)” link.
  • The Revised Guidelines for MEU will appear on the screen.
  • Check the notice and download it for further use.

These requirements have been amended, according to the NMC, which is India’s top medical education body, after it was discovered that some medical colleges were not meeting the criteria for the ACME and FAIMER Fellowships.

The workshop for faculty members on the Revised Basic Course was impacted because this requirement wasn’t satisfied. There should be no less than 8 academic members at MEU.

The faculty member who wants to join the Medical Education Unit under NMC must have furthermore completed the MCI Basic or Revised Basic Course in MET/AETCOM at a regional or nodal center or at a medical college accredited by the Medical Council of India or NMC.
