Odisha Govt Launched Chatra Protsahan Yojana (CPY), To Provide Free Engineering/Medical Coaching to SC/ST Students

On Monday October 4, The government of Odisha launched Chatra Protsahan Yojana (CPY) which will provide free coaching to the students for Engineering & Medical entrance exams. With this proposed scheme meritorious SC/ST students with hidden potential will be tapped at the young age and will be provided coaching & career guidance while continuing their higher education at the same facility.

The SC and ST development department of the Odisha government will open seven centres of excellence in SC and ST schools of the state. The centres will identify and nurture the potential students to pursue their higher education in Engineering and Medical streams and will provide them coaching & study material to help them crack the entrance examinations.

According to a news published on Times of India, The SC and ST development department will provide free coaching to 320 SC and ST students every year. The students who will be selected this year for the scheme will appear in the entrance examinations in 2023. At present the department is running 62 numbers of Higher Secondary Schools in 14 districts of the state. Every year more than 30,000 ST/SC students appear in the Annual HSC Examination.

The selection criteria for selecting the Students will be on the basis of class 10th merit and also a selection test that will be conducted for the students who have passed their 10th/matric examination from SSD high schools.

 The government has signed MOU’s with various coaching institutes to carry this initiative forward by providing on site coaching for the selected SC and ST students in the proposed centre of excellence.

The inauguration event was attended by Dr. Amar Patnaik (member of parliament),Principal Secretary, ST & SC Development Department Ranjana Chopra, PA, ITDAs, DWOs, students and other senior officers of the Department. In the event Rajya Sabha MP, Amar Patnaik handed over 200 tablets from the MPLAD funds for the students who will be undergoing the programme.
