Few days ago, NMC (National Medical Commission) issued a notification stated that “After extensive consultations, it has been decided that the fee of the 50 per cent seats in the private medical colleges and deemed universities should be at par with the fee in the government medical colleges of that particular State and UT. The benefit of this fee structure would be first made available to those candidates who have availed government quota seats, but are limited to the extent of 50 per cent of the total sanctioned strength of the respective medical college/deemed university”.

After this announcement, PM Modi tweeted “A few days back, the government has taken another big decision, which will benefit the poor and middle-class children”.

“We have decided that half the seats in private medical colleges will be charged at par with government medical colleges,” Further tweeted by PM Modi.

Currently, fees in private medical colleges are decided by the state admission regulatory authority. During the Russia-Ukraine war, many students who were pursuing MBBS course had to be evacuated from the war country.

These days, most of the students prefer MBBS degree from abroad colleges. There are several reasons behind this like lack of seats in medical government colleges, high fees charged by the private colleges in India, etc.

One of the main reasons is that some countries offer MBBS degree at a lower cost as compared in India.

Around 20 to 25K students go abroad every year to pursue MBBS. 60% students from India reach to China, Russia or Ukraine to grab MBBS degree. Prahlad Joshi (Parliamentary Affairs Minister) said that 90% of students going abroad are those who do not clear NEET exam.
