NExt is not only a qualifying examination for MBBS final students but it will also serve as a licentiate exam. The objective of NExT is to simplify and streamline the evaluation procedure for prospective postgraduate medical professionals in India.
Additionally, the NExT will play an important role in the merit-based admission process for postgraduate courses.
AIIMS New Delhi recently announced that on July 28, 2023, they will host a NExT Mock Exam 2023. It will be a practice test for the actual National Exit Test (NExT) 2023 on behalf of the National Medical Commission (NMC).
NExT Eligibility 2023
All first-year medical students pursuing an MBBS degree at medical colleges recognized by the NMC, including Institutes of National Importance (INI), are required to participate in NExT.
All foreign medical graduates (FMGs) who meet the requirements for foreign medical graduate licensure as set forth by the NMC for enrollment in the state or national register and for acquiring a license to practice medicine in India.
Anyone with a medical degree can pursue an academic course, an observership, or any other purpose specified by NMC through proper notice. All medical professionals who intend to enroll in postgraduate programs in diverse specialties have been awarded a license to practice medicine and are registered in national or state registration.
NExT Exam Process/General Process
The NExT will consist of two separate examinations termed “Steps. The NExt exam is going to be conducted as NExT 1 and NExT 2.
NExT Step 1:- Computer-based testing (CBT) will be used for the theoretical National Exit Test. The test will include six exams covering MBBS/Final MBBS topics. The number of attempts to appear in the NExT Step 1 is not restricted.
NExT Step 2:- Seven clinical subjects or disciplines will be covered in the practical/clinical and viva voce portions of the test. The appropriate state health universities/institutions will host the exam in person/live, adhering to the criteria and regulations specified by the Commission.
If a candidate has completed both the NExT Step 1 and NExT Step 2 exams within ten years of enrolling in the MBBS program, there is no limit on the number of times they may sit in the NExT Step 2 examination.
NExT Exam Pattern & Marking Scheme
The NMC NExT test pattern includes the exam mode, the medium overall amount of questions, their type, and other information. The NExT 1 theory exam will be conducted online, whereas the NExT 2 practical or viva will be conducted offline.
NExT 1 will include 540 multiple-choice questions. Participants in the internship programs must pass the National Exit Examination Paper 1.
To be eligible for NeXT Paper 1, candidates must receive 50% of the possible points. To be admitted to PG programs, candidates must pass both NExT 1 and NExT 2.
To be eligible for the NExT exam, candidates must receive a minimum score. The marks for NExT 1 must be determined as a whole number, which will serve as the Raw Scores with the proper decimals.
If necessary, equivalent Percentages (marks out of a maximum of 100) with the proper decimals may also be calculated. Results for the NExT 2 Exam will only be reported as Pass or Fail based on the evaluation of the candidate’s achieving the skills that are required.

The final schedule for the NExT 2023 internship, test, and admission for postgraduates will shortly be released by the NMC and authorized authority. The table given below has details that are tentative in nature.
