11 Students Commit Suicide in MP & Telangana After the Release of 2024 Board Exam Results

On 24 April 2024, the Madhya Pradesh board of School Education and the Telangana board released the board exam results for the classes 10 and 12 session 2024 examination in an online mode in which a maximum number of students have qualified for the examination.

However, just hours after the announcement of the MP and Telangana board exams results 2024, 11 cases of suicide have been reported in the states, shaking the authority to its core.

As per the Times of India, 7 students from Telangana and 4 from Madhya Pradesh reportedly committed suicide by hanging themselves, jumping into a community well, and drowning in ponds, after the release of 2024 board exams results.

The official stated that the students were aged between 16 – 18 years and everyone had committed suicide due to academic failure as they failed in 2 or 3 subjects in their 2024 board examination and took their lives.

Reports also stated that the students who committed suicide mostly belonged to the science stream in which 4 among them were girls and the rest were boys.

A mental health specialist Dr. Devendra Jhadaniya, advises students not to take harsh steps in response to failure, pointing out that success is gained with strength. In addition, he also advised parents to be there for their children no matter what their exam results are and also advised them to support them.

These incidents highlight the importance of providing a strong and supportive atmosphere for students, as well as pressurizing mental health and resilience in the educational system.
