Students Protest Against Education Policy, Demands Rejection Of NEP, CUET & NEET

Student’s Protest Against NEP, CUET & NEET: On Friday, 12 January 2024, the United Students of India, a joint platform of 16 organisations staged a protest against the central government’s education policies at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi.

Thousand of students from all across the country came together to raise their voices against abrupt education policies like the new education policy 2020, Common Universities Entrance Tests (CUET), and the national medical exam (NEET).

Student Federation of India (SFI), also requested other students to reject the BJP in the upcoming general elections as the breakdown of the public education system is a result of their rules and policies.

Many students also appealed to the authority to reject the National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam (NEET), the single largest medical entrance exam which was already being rejected by several states of India, mainly by Tamil Nadu due to the increasing number of suicides.

What Was The Demands Of SFI

Mr. VP Sanu, Dinesh Sreerangrajan, and Deepshita Dhar the major leaders of the Student Federation of India, led the protest against the NEP 2020, CUET, and NEET.

They later read out the student’s demand chart, which stated the below-mentioned points:-

  • Reject the National Education Policy 2020, as well as the NEET and CUET.
  • Enact the Bhagat Singh National Employment Guarantee Act to ensure equal access to education and employment for all.
  • Establish GSCASH on all campuses & make sexual harassment and gender discrimination illegal at all educational institutions. 
  • Form anti-sexual harassment committees in all educational institutions, as directed by the Supreme Court.
  • Resist communism, commodification, and centralised education. 
  • Protect and establish rights and opportunities for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backward Castes (OBCs), and other marginalized groups in education and employment. In the private sector, implement a reservation strategy.
  • Resist fee increases and ensure free, high-quality education from kindergarten to post-secondary education.
  • Pass the Rohith Act and put an end to caste and economic discrimination.

These were the demands raised by the SFI which also demanded to withdrawal of the agnipath scheme.
