Union Education Minister Inaugurates Phase – II of Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF)

Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri. Dharmendra Pradhan launched the Second phase (Phase-2) of Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) on 25 October 2021. The first phase of Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) Programme was launched by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in January 2018.
The MGNF Programme was designed to commence the mission to strengthen the skill training delivery mechanism of the country called Skill Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP).

Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) is an opportunity for every young individual of 21-30 years age group, who already possess a prescribed level of academic or professional expertise for encouraging the district administration to improve the skill development program delivery mechanism of the country.

The First phase of Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) or MGNF Phase-I (Pilot) was Launched by the Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship with IIM Bangalore as Academic Partner with 69 other Fellows which is deployed in 69 districts across the 6 States as per the reports published in NDTV.

Second Phase of Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) or MGNF Phase-II (National Roll Out) was launched on 25th October 2021 with 661 MGNFs deployed across all districts of the country along with 8 more IIMs.


This includes total to 9 Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) including IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM-Jammu, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Lucknow, IIM Nagpur, IIM Ranchi, IIM-Udaipur and IIM Visakhapatnam.
Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) is basically a unique jumble of academic and work-based training handling programmes at the Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) campus and all other districts.

During the fieldwork (District Immersion) of MGNF Programme, the participants will work within the district with District Selection Committee (DSC) officials on skilling challenges facing the district. Along with the District Selection Committee officials, they will put District Skill Development Plans (DSDPs) and implementation road maps for the respective District.
With the District Selection Committee (DSC) officials, the Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) Framework will help to promote the various initiatives of the Prime minister like “vocal for local” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat”.

Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) will assist the respective districts on Practical -based Planning and Management of skilling in the respective districts. The main focus of MGNF will be on developing the skills for local needs and giving thrust to the “vocal for local”, with developing an industry-relevant skill base for supporting the prime ministers “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative.
