On Friday, 8 March 2024, the officials of Dr Y S Parmar Medical College, Nahan, in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district has suspended 9 students of the 2022 batch for 45 days from the college for allegedly ragging the junior batch.

As per the officials, these 9 students were found allegedly ragging the junior batch (2023) in the dissection hall of the anatomy department of the college on March 4, 2024.

Abusive words and practice of violence have also been seen performed by the boys with the students of the junior class.
College Decided To Suspend 9 Students Who Perform Ragging
The Student Welfare Advisory Committee (SWAC) later, investigated the matter and found that nine students were found guilty for performing ragging in the Dr Y S Parmar Medical College, Nahan, Himachal Pradesh.
After this, the university suspended these students from attending the college for 45 days and along with this a fine of Rs 50,000 is imposed on each student for performing illegal ragging in the college.
Besides the fine, these students will not be allowed to participate in any sports or literary function for a period of one year, as stated by the anti-ragging committee.
Previously in December 2023, the University Grants Commission (UGC) also issued notice which stated that the UGC will take strict actions against the college and the students who are involved in the ragging in colleges and universities.
