Karnataka School 2024 Latest Updates: The Karnataka government has taken fair action for the students by dividing the school textbooks into two parts which has reduced a lot of burden off the students’ shoulders.

By splitting the textbooks into two sections, this plan aims to reduce the weight of unnecessary books. The weight of the bags that the students carry will be 50% lighter after this step is taken.

Instead of providing one book for the whole year, now the students will get two different books for the same subject i.e. one for the Summative Assessment part 1 and the other for Summative Assessment part 2. 

The decision to reduce the weight of school bags for the students will come into action from the 2024-25 session in Karnataka schools. 

Karnataka Education Minister’s Statement

The Prime Education Minister of Karnataka, Madhu Bangarappa stated, “To study Chapter 1, students are currently required to carry books for the entire year, which is a lot of unnecessary weight. To address this issue, we have divided the syllabus into two parts and the new order will be released in the next 10 days”.

Also, the government is planning to release alternative sources for the notebooks, considering students to carry loose notes instead of notebooks. 

Minister Bangarappa highlighted that the newly proposed scheme will result in minimal expenses for parents, “This division in textbooks will reduce the size of the book by 50%, and this decision has been taken to ensure the safety of children” he added. 

The Department of State Education Research and Training (DSERT) conducted a study in 2019 in which they mentioned that the weight of school bags for classes 1 and 2 must be 1.5 to 2 kg, 2 to 3 kg for classes 3 to 5, and 3 to 5 kg for classes 6 to 10.
