23-Years-Old M.Tech Student Found Dead In His Hostel Room, Police Investigation Ongoing

On February 16, a sad incident occurred in Delhi, where a 23-year-old student of IIT-Delhi was found hanging in the hostel room. The deceased was identified as Sanjay Nerkar pursuing a Master’s of Technology from the university.

The incident came to light when the parents of the deceased called him on Thursday night. After calling him many times the deceased was not answering their phone calls.

The parents of the deceased boy then informed his friends and other students of the Dronacharya hostel, Delhi to check on him as he was not taking their calls.

Nerkar lives in room number 757 of the Dronacharya hostel, Delhi. When the deceased friends rushed to check on him, they found the room was locked from inside.

The students called him continuously for some time and when they found no response from the deceased room, the students then informed the hostel authorities about this. After the authorities broke the door, they found Nerkar’s body hanging from the ceiling fan.

The police were informed about the case, and the investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the cause of the student’s death.

Meanwhile, a similar incident also occurred in Kota Rajasthan where a 16-year-old JEE Main aspirant committed suicide in his hostel room on 13 February 2024.

Including this case, the total number of student deaths in January 2024 has reached 8 in numbers. Concerning this, the government has also launched a suicide helpline number i.e. 9152987821 to reach out to the best team of counsellors and psychiatric experts.
