Educational Institutes To Provide Study Material in Regional Languages: The Ministry of Education has released a notice on its official website and official Twitter directing educational institutes to available study material to students in Indian regional languages.

As per the notice, all the schools and higher education institutions in India must provide students with study materials in their regional languages within a period of three years.

The study materials in regional languages including the 8th Schedule of the Constitution nationwide, which will be provided digitally by higher educational authorities such as NCERT, NIOS, IGNOU, and heads of INIs like IITs, CUs, and NIT. 

UGC, AICTE, and the Department of School Education have also been asked to take up the issue concerning state schools and universities.

MoE Official Statement on Providing Study Material in Regional Languages

According to the press release by the Ministry of Education on 19 January 2024, “the government of India has decided to provide study material for every course in Indian languages to promote multilingualism in the education system”. 

Providing study material at every level of education in the regional languages will help students get the opportunity to study their languages and have a better learning experience.

The NEP 2020 emphasizes that a multilingual nature is a huge asset and must be effectively used for the socio-cultural, economic, and educational development of the country. 

“Creating online/offline content in the local languages will improve the multilingual nature and will be better for contribution in the “Vikshit Bharat” to make India developed by 2047”, the Ministry of Education added.

The government of India has already been working with the translation of Engineering, Medical, Law, UG, PG, and skill books for the past two years through the “Anuvadimi” AI-based online app. All the translated books are available on the e-Kumbh portal.
