Kerala Schools Hydration Break: The state education minister of Kerela has introduced a water bell system in the schools of Kerela with an aim to ensure students have adequate amounts of water in summer.

The state education minister of Kerela on Saturday i.e. 17 February 2024 officially announced that the students of Kerela schools will get a break for 5 minutes to drink water. This would help the students to stay hydrated as the temperature is soaring day by day.

The education minister stated to PTI that “we implemented the “Water Bell” for the first time in 2019 in schools in certain areas of the state, due to the high-temperature levels there. Later on, states like Karnataka and Telangana also implemented it”.

Now, the government is implementing the initiative in every school across the state considering the rising mercury levels,” he added.

At What Time Does The Water Bell Rang In Kerela Schools?

The state education minister told PTI that the water bell will ring 2 times a day i.e. at 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM, and the students will get a 5-minute water break each to drink water and keep their bodies hydrated in the summer season.

Further, the minister added that “the state is experiencing an unusual increase in temperature due to climate change, therefore it is important to make sure students are drinking enough water while they are in school, stated the sources of the education department.

Meanwhile, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has also issued an advisory for Kannur, Kottayam, Kozhikode, and Alappuzha districts, suggesting above-normal high temperatures on Saturday.

The organization also recommends individuals avoid exposing their bodies to direct sunlight because of the risk of sunstrokes.
